it is a rock and roll event with 50's nostalgia.
It is great, if you like this  sort of stuff.
on ever street corner there is a band playing old  rock and roll  and  blues.
people  are dressed in the old rockabilly outfits.
and you can dance all night to any of 9 different rock and roll bands.
all the old cars are here on show.
its a lot of fun.

Investing Psychology and the story of MARK TWAIN

Does negative past experiences influence YOUR future financial prosperity?

Many people are burdened by past negative experiences in life and are unable to raise their level of prosperity, thus continually allowing negativity to dictate their life. Allow me to enlighten you with a further pertinent story.

The Financial Story of MARK TWAIN

Mark Twain was sitting on his veranda one evening having a beer with his neighbour, who happened to be his local barber. A smartly dressed salesman called and was invited to sit and join them and make his presentation.

The salesman went to great lengths to explain that he represented a business house marketing shares in a new product for a new company that was going to take the world by storm, and would make thousands, and possibly millions, for those who helped to finance the company now, by buying shares.

Mark Twain chased the man off his veranda.

"Get out of here. I've been caught before with these wild share schemes. Why just last year I bought a whole heap of x shares in a new company and within a very few months the company had folded up and I lost all my money. I will never buy shares again."


The man left and the barber neighbour escorted him off the premises. However the barber, who had not had a bad shares experience, was very interested in what he had heard, and invited the salesman to his place, next door, and he listened to the story again. The barber bought into the company and made millions!

Mark Twain made nothing! Why?


Because the company was selling a new invention called the Bell Telephone. Mark Twain surrendered to his deductive mindset and limiting beliefs, hence passing up on a wonderful opportunity. As for Mark Twain, he remained in debt for a considerable portion of his life until his death in 1910.

The lesson here for all of us is that we must replenish and invigorate our exuberance for life by continually persevering regardless of the circumstances.

The Latin phrase known to most Investors and Entrepreneurs is' Carpe Diem.' It means seize the day.
ACTION STEP: Look at every opportunity with a fresh point of view.

The Whale Story



The Whale Story "Celebrate what you want to see more of." by Tom Peters

"Have you ever wondered how the whale and porpoise trainers at Sea World get Shamu, the 19,000-pound whale, to jump 22 feet out of the water and perform tricks? They get the whale to go over a rope farther out of the water than most of us can imagine. This is a great challenge – as great as the ones you and I face as parents, coaches and managers.

Can you imagine the typical American managerial approach to this situation? The first thing we would do would be to get that rope right up there at 22 feet – no sense celebrating shortcomings. We call that goal-setting, or strategic planning. With the goal clearly defined, we now have to figure out a way to motivate the whale. So we take a bucket of fish and put it right above that 22-foot rope – don't pay the whale unless it performs. Then we have to give direction. We lean over from our nice high and dry perch and say, "Jump whale!"….and the whale stays right where it is.

So how do the trainers at Sea World do it? Their number one priority is to reinforce the behaviour that they want repeated – in this case, to get the whale or porpoise to go over the rope. They influence the environment every way they can so that it supports the principle of making sure that the whale cannot fail.

They start with the rope below the surface of the water, in a position where the whale can't help but do what is expected of it. Every time the whale goes over the rope, it gets positive reinforcement. It gets fed fish, patted, played with, and the most important, it gets that reinforcement.

But what happens when the whale goes under the rope? Nothing – no electric shock, no constructive criticism, no developmental feedback and no warnings in the personnel file. Whales are taught that their negative behaviour will not be acknowledged.

Positive reinforcement is the cornerstone of that simple principle that produces such spectacular results. And as the whale begins to go over the rope more than under, the trainers begin to raise the rope. It must be raised slowly enough so that the whale doesn't starve physically or emotionally.

The simple lesson to be learned from the whale trainers is to over-celebrate. Make a big deal out of the good and little stuff that we want consistently. Secondly, under-criticise. People know when they screw up. What they need is help. If we under-criticise, punish and discipline less than is expected, people will forget the event and usually not repeat it.

In my opinion, most successful businesses today are doing things right more than 95 percent of the time. Yet what do we spend the majority of our time giving feedback on? That's right – the 2, 3, 4, maybe even 5 percent of things that we don't want repeated and didn't want to happen in the first place.

We need to set up the circumstances so that people can't fail. Over-celebrate, under-criticise…and know how far to raise the rope.

ACTION STEP: Find some doing something right today and help them celebrate!

TATER PEOPLE

 

Some people never seem motivated to participate, but
are just content to watch while others do the work.

to do, but don't want to soil their own hands.

asking others to agree with them. It is too hot or
too cold, too sour or too sweet.
They  are called "Agie Taters".

There are those who say they will help, but somehow
just never get around to actually doing the promised help.
They are called "Hezzie Taters".

Some people can put up a front and pretend to be
someone they are not.
They are called "Emma Taters".

Then  there are those who love others and do what they
say they will. They are always prepared to stop whatever
they are doing and lend a helping hand. They bring real
sunshine into the lives of others.
They are called "Sweet Po Taters".

Chase Your Passion, Not Your Pension

Two of life's greatest tragedies are: Never to have had a great mission in life, and to have fully reached it so there is no challenge remaining.

Are you going where you want to go, doing what you want to do, and becoming who you want to become? These are the questions we must ask ourselves. Set some quiet time aside after you have finished this program and see the two you's in the mirror of your mind:

1. There is the reflection of the person you are today.

2. There is the image of who you will be in the future.

Looking at my own life, I am incredibly different in many respects from the person I was ten years ago.

As you reflect on your past and anticipate the future, understand that virtually nothing you have experienced has been wasted. It all blends together into wisdom and knowledge, and creates your own unique brand of cultural diversity.

Action Idea: In your professional life, what is most important for you to achieve in the remainder of career? In your personal life, what is most important for you to achieve in the remainder of your life? Find a close friend or associate you trust and network with often, and challenge each other to continuously strive to reach these objectives.

As you consider your mission in life, you may want to use this action step as your guidepost for the 21st Century: Chase Your Passion, Not Your Pension.

Passion in your purpose will help you take control of your life, and also give you one other advantage that is not widely recognized: About ten more years of life, on average. Pursuit of a goal wears out very few people. But they rust out by the hundreds of thousands when their pursuit of happiness turns into a geriatric park. A job is something you do for money. A career is something you do because you have an inner calling to do it. You want to do it. You love doing it. You're excited when you do it. And you'd do it even if you were paid nothing beyond food and the basics. You'd do it because it's your life.

Be inspired to learn as much as you can, gain skills as much as you can, to find a cause that benefits humankind and you'll be sought after for your quality of service and dedication to excellence.

Action Idea: If you had the time and circumstances allowed, what is one of your most passionate desires in life you would like to pursue? It could be a new business idea, music, action, sports, or community service. Starting tomorrow, chase that passion a little bit at a time.

What's the value of a persons name?                  


This story has been doing the "rounds" for a few years but never loses its power in the retelling of it. The most recent time I have seen the story is on Martin Avis's very clever Kickstart Today Newsletter.

"During my second month of nursing school, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions, until I read the last one:

'What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?'

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

'Absolutely,' said the professor. 'In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say hello.'

I've never forgotten that lesson.

I've also never forgotten her name was Dorothy."

Martin writes his example of the power of the story:

That story reminded me of the last Advertising Agency I worked at (a few years ago now).

One day a new receptionist arrived. A sweet girl who spoke good, but halting English. It turned out that she was Bulgarian and was working in London for a year to improve her language skills.

She was an interesting and intelligent girl who was planning to become a language teacher. I often stopped by for a quick chat when I was passing.

When Christmas Eve came, I found a small parcel on my desk. It was a little aromatherapy burner with a note that read:

"Thank you for being the only person in the whole company who ever says more than 'Good Morning' and 'Good Night'. Katya."

In the New Year Katya went back to Bulgaria and shortly after I left that company but that little gift meant a lot to me - even if it did make me very sad that her statement was so typical of most businesses in London.

Eight years on, my own daughter is a receptionist in a busy London office and tells me that the number of people who bother to know her name can be counted on one hand.

People don't change, but perhaps they should.

And for my story on the power of your name, I will tell you about Hong and Ahn who have recently taken over the coffee shop at our office complex in Perth.

Hong and Ahn have taken a very poorly preforming business and turned t on its ear.

Their secret?? Simple really.

Hong and Ahn make a point of knowing EVERY one of their customers names. To the point of making a note of it in an exercise book discretely kept under the counter. And it is magical to see the power of remembering someone's name when they have only ever been to your shop once... six weeks ago.

ACTION STEP: So, take the time today to learn the name of someone you have acknowledged over the last year (or 5?? ) yet not addressed them by name. You will love the reaction and feel much better too.

This accident happened 2 years ago when he was practicing for the comps that i am in now.
It is a reminder that this sport can be dangerous and i have to be extra careful.

But boy is it fun!

I am flying in the national comps over there.

flying in the national comps in January

My name is on the list

I am now really looking forward to flying in the comps. It only about 4 weeks away before i leave.
Wow flying with 60 other gliders is going to be fun.
 
I will be driving over to the comps with the kids. It will be their first time out of the state. ( other than Bali)

Kevin Rudd for PM

Fantastic!
The first time I saw Kevin was when he was giving a speech about how we should not be in Iraq.
He made more sense than any other politician that i know.
 
I thought then that i would love to see him in power. It now looks like he is going to be our next PM.
 

Rudd pledges new style of ALP leadership

Kevin Rudd has begun his first news conference as federal opposition leader promising a new style of leadership for Labor.

Mr Rudd said the government had gone "a bridge too far" on a number of issues, including Iraq, industrial and climate change.

"The call for the Australian people these days is this: it's time to restore the balance, it's time to reclaim the centre ground," he said.
